Fwd: CfP - UC Berkeley "New Directions in Taiwan History: People, Place, and Publics" Workshop (due Nov 15)
Please see the forwarded call for proposals below. ************ We are pleased to announce the call for proposals for "New Directions in Taiwan History: People, Place, and Publics," the third workshop in a three-part series on Taiwan history, to be held at the University of California, Berkeley, on May 26–27, 2027, hosted by Berkeley's Center for Chinese Studies.
The workshop brings together scholars working across the temporal range of Taiwan history to share works in progress. We are especially interested in archivally based projects, and welcome contributions on topics including the sea; indigenous peoples and indigenization; urban history and the built environment; labor and capital in thought and movements; geographies and other categories of belonging and exclusion; physical culture and sport; public and political cultures including media, language, and information; community, conflict, and citizenship; and the interplay between the local, the regional, and the transnational.
Participants pre-circulate a draft dissertation chapter, book manuscript chapter, or stand-alone article, and discussants are assigned to each submission. We provide local accommodation (up to three nights), economy-class airfare or ground transportation, and meals. PhD student participants must be ABD. We especially welcome proposals from Ph.D. candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and contingent scholars.
Proposals of 400–500 words, with a brief biography, are due to taiwanhistworkshop@gmail.com by November 15, 2026.
