The 32nd NATSA Presidential Election Call for Nominations

The 32nd NATSA Presidential Election — Call for Nominations

The North American Taiwan Studies Association (NATSA) is now accepting nominations for the 32nd NATSA President, who will serve the July 2026 – June 2027 term and lead the organization through the NATSA 2027 Annual Conference.

For a full overview of the President's responsibilities, visit: https://www.na-tsa.org/post/natsa-s-presidential-election

Who Can Vote

NATSA elections are open to our broader community of members and contributors. Eligible voters include:

  • NATSA Lifetime Members (list established 2017)

  • Board of Directors members (NATSA 2020–2026)

  • NATSA Presidents and Secretaries (NATSA 2020–2026)

  • Annual Conference Organizing Committee members (NATSA 2020–2026), including Program Directors (PD), Program Commissioners (PC), Administrative Commissioners (AC), and Local/Logistics Directors (LD)

  • Annual Conference Paid Registrants (NATSA 2020–2025)

Election announcements will be distributed via NATSA's social media channels and email listserv. Voting links will be sent from secretary@na-tsa.org.

Who Can Run

To be eligible for the presidency, a candidate must:

  1. Have prior experience in NATSA Annual Conference planning and decision-making, through roles such as Board of Directors member, President, Program Director (PD), Program Commissioner (PC), Administrative Commissioner (AC), or Local/Logistics Director (LD) — or a comparable role at NATSA's discretion; and

  2. Have either (a) graduate school enrollment experience (past or present), or (b) professional experience in an academic setting (e.g., as a researcher, instructor, or faculty member).

Any disputes regarding a candidate's eligibility will be reviewed and decided by the current Board of Directors.

How to Nominate Yourself

If you meet the eligibility criteria above and are interested in leading NATSA, we encourage you to self-nominate. Submit a completed self-nomination form to NATSA Secretary at secretary@na-tsa.org by March 8, 2026, 11:59pm Pacific Time.

Election Timeline

  • Self-Nomination Window: Feb 23 – Mar 8, 2026

  • Campaign Period: Mar 9 – Mar 15, 2026

  • Voting Window: Mar 16 – Mar 22, 2026

  • Results Announced: Mar 23, 2026

All deadlines are at 11:59pm Pacific Time unless otherwise noted.

What Happens If No Candidate Comes Forward

In the event that no qualified candidate is nominated or the election yields no result, the incumbent President will continue to serve with the support of the Board of Directors until the next President is inaugurated. In this case, the election for the 33rd NATSA President (2027–2028 term, organizing the NATSA 2028 Annual Conference) will be held no later than September 2026.
